Star Pubs & Bars Scoops BPPA Pub Champion Award 2014

9th October 2014

Star Pubs & Bars was named Pub Champion at the British Beer and Pub Awards 2014 which were held at Park Plaza Westminster Bridge last night, an award granted for the company that was deemed to have best secured pubs for future generations.

The judges said that Star Pubs & Bars had worked hard to secure pubs for future generations through effective investment in their pubs through both physical improvements to the pub estate, and engagement in the social responsibility agenda.  They believed that Star had made great progress over the past year in helping their licensees to reach their true potential and turning around under-performing pubs.

Chris Jowsey, Trading Director, Star Pubs & Bars says, “We are delighted to have won the award for BPPA Pub Champion 2014.  We are passionate about the future of the great British pub and committed to ensuring great British pubs continue to play a valuable role in society.  We invest in our pubs and in developing the skills of the lessees who run them to create pubs people love.   We’re constantly looking at ways to add value to lessees and make our partnership stronger.

“In the last three years under HEINEKEN ownership, Star Pubs & Bars has moved forward taking an innovative, industry leading role.    Over the past year Star invested over £18m in improving the fabric of our buildings. upgrading the living accommodation for lessees.   In addition we attracted new talent to the industry through the launch of new leases and a support package – resulting in our best recruitment year ever.

“This is our second award in two years which highlights our work in ensuring the future of the great British pubs we all love.  Last year Star Pubs & Bars won the ASDA Enterprise Growth Award at the Business in the Community’s Responsible Business Awards.  It was an accolade for the hard work of our lessees and was recognition of our own efforts to help lessees create strong sustainable businesses that form the backbone of local communities, providing jobs and social cohesion.”
