WE LOVE PUBS
Pubs play an incredibly important role in bringing people together. They’re hubs of communities in every village, town and city. They don’t discriminate and welcome all walks of life, and they are so much more than just a place to have a pint.
After a year like no other loneliness and isolation have affected many across the country and our annual Brewing Good Cheer campaign is all about tackling that and shining a light on local pubs as vital spaces and so often the pillar of communities across the UK.
With no shop in Ashton under Hill, Vicky Lawson stepped in and turned The Star Inn into a village shop, takeaway and off-license when the pandemic hit.
The initiative enabled many elderly and shielding people unable to shop online to get food and also protected residents keen to minimise the village’s exposure to Covid-19.
Helped by volunteers, the pub was producing 350 meat, veg and grocery boxes and 340 meals a week at the peak of the pandemic. The service was a lifeline for the community, and the pub has been inundated with thanks.
