The Liverpool Arms, Beaumaris is to benefit from a major upgrade

The much-loved family run pub, restaurant and hotel, The Liverpool Arms in Beaumaris, is to close after last orders on 5th January for six weeks for a major £248,000 refurbishment by Heineken owned Star Pubs & Bars and licensees Matthew and Sarah Ormond.

Mathew and Sarah, two of the longest serving licensees in town, have run The Liverpool Arms for 19 years and feel it is time to upgrade the building, bringing it into the 21st century whilst retaining its warm and welcoming traditional character.

Inside, the bar is being repositioned and partitions removed to create a lighter, more spacious, flexible dining area, increasing covers from 62 to 100 and enabling the pub to cater for larger groups of 12-14.

An accessible toilet with baby changing facilities is also being installed, the only pub restaurant in town to have one. The existing toilet facilities are to be upgraded with metro style tiling and wood effect flooring.

There will be a new bar area with featured patterned tiles on the floor, a chimney breast clad with rustic timber and blue painted wall panelling.

Features like the dining area fireplace and the snug with its round table and seating for eight will be retained.

The furniture and décor throughout are being upgraded to create the most comfortable and stylish pub restaurant in town.

Outside, The Liverpool Arms is being given a make-over – redecorated in a smart dark grey and white, with new lighting, signage, window boxes and hanging baskets.

The same drinks will be on offer as before, but with two additional cask ales on top of the pub’s existing two, new craft beers like Maltsmiths IPA, and premium lagers such as Birra Moretti and Amstel. In addition to its wide range of wines, the pub’s extensive gin selection will also be further expanded.

The menu at The Liverpool Arms will continue to include great value-for-money home-made pub classics such as: the hugely popular steak pie, and steaks, burgers, curries, fish and chips and their popular Sunday carvery.

Matthew, who was brought up in Beaumaris, first spotted the potential of The Liverpool Arms when he was 21. He said: “I fancied running The Liverpool Arms when I first joined the pub industry, but it wasn’t available back then. So when the lease came up 10 years later my wife Sarah and six-month-old Molly Rose and I leapt at the opportunity to take it on and haven’t looked back. 19 years later we are still going strong with a fantastic team of staff including help from 19-year-old Molly Rose and our other daughter, 17-year-old Isabelle Jayne.

“The Liverpool Arms had its last refit 38 years ago and was designed around drinkers. The culture has since changed with the focus today on eating, so the building needs to reflect this. We are very excited to be reopening in time for Valentine’s Day, welcoming customers old and new, and to raise a glass to another 19 years!
